Home
Let's build your dream home. We will start by making a sketch or composite, using inspiration from the internet or your own home, in Procreate. Then you will start drawing your vision, making it into a final, framable, illustration.
Research
You will need to start collecting images that insipre you. These can be images of your own home, vacation rentals, or just random found homes on the internet. Unsplash website is a good place to find images that are royalty free.
Collect images for the setting, windows, patio, landscaping, design, colors, doors, etc. We will just be illustrating the exterior of the home so no interior images are necessary.
Create a composite of all of your faves
Take all of these photos and combine them any way you like. You are welcome to work in pencil first and then move to the iPad. It is most important that you love it.
Line art
Next you will set up a new canvas for your image. It should be one of the following dimensions:
8x10in or 12x15in or 16x20in
300 DPI
Procreate will limit the number of layers you can use depending on the memory on your iPad.
Go to the wrench icon and add the photo you created to this new canvas as a "private photo" by swiping left on the words "insert a photo." Click the "N" on the layer and reduce the opacity to 50% and consider swiping left and locking the layer.
Make a new layer and begin to draw your general lines to define your new home. You may want to use a contrasting color so that you can see your lines above the image layer.
Add a setting
Think about where your home is. Is it in the heart of San Francisco, South of France, beachfront in Costa Rican, etc. Start adding things that set the scene. Tropical lush plants if you will be making it in Bali. Palm trees for Costa Rica. You get the point. Add a layer above your line work to add a tree, plants, cactus, etc.
COLOR Choices
Choose your colors carefully by making mini mockups of what your house could look like if it were a bunch of different colors. Think about your palette carefully though. You want to pick colors that compliment eachother but are still bold. Don't be afraid of unusual colors.
Details
Lastly begin to fill layers (not the line layer) with the colors you have chosen. Try to stick with one color per layer. This will help later in case you decide to change colors. Build from the back to the front. Make sure you catch all the stray lines and gaps.
Add the landscape back in and play with textures on layers above (editable) or on the layer itself (destructive).
