HEADSHOTS

Instructions

Take a photo of a classmate that can be used as a professional headshot. You will learn to use the DSLR/Mirrorless cameras and you will practice using appropriate settings on a camera. You will need to spend time really learning the terms and settings that will make these photos look and be professional. Remember you are in a very important position, each photo will be used for our portfolios.

To begin, you will need to complete the linked worksheet. Please do the research on your own. Start with a search for "how to take a head shot." Or look up "lighting set up for a headshot." Then begin to fill in your answers. Some will not be easy others will be. Just stick with it.

Then using class time we will team up in groups of three and you will all take turns photographing, modeling, and assisting eachother. For example if Sally, Nick, & Raven were all in a group Raven might be photographer, Nick would be model, and Sally would assist. Then the next round each person would switch until all have been a model, photographer, and assistant.

Model: Your job is to take direction from the photographer. You are also the client so you dictate how you want to look in the final shot. You are not the boss in this scenario, so you will need to practice being considerate of the photographers needs to get the right picture.

Photographer: You will take 20-30 pictures for the client "model" to choose from. You will need to direct the client and assistant in this scenario. You will tell them, with professionalism, where to look, hold reflectors, and adjust the scene.

Assistant: You will hold the reflectors, move the lights, and aid the model in this scenario. You will take direction from the photographer with grace, knowing you will be in their shoes soon.
